The first U.S. COPD Coalition National Conference in Arlington, VA, was held in conjunction with the second World COPD Day November 19, 2003. This event generated the encouragement and enthusiasm for COPD Awareness and Education that resulted in the first COPD Conference in Colorado, planned and presented by the Colorado COPD Network along with the National Emphysema/COPD Association November 13, 2004. The theme of the 2004 thru 2006 COPD Conferences was “Living The Colorado High Life.” In 2007 the Conference became the “Moving Mountains COPD Conference”. This conference has become an annual event and in 2009 was officially designated the “Thomas L. Petty MD Moving Mountains COPD Conference”.
